Pete Davidson Defends Pedro pascal Against Criticism of Overexposure
Comedian Pete Davidson has come to the defense of actor Pedro Pascal, addressing online backlash from fans who feel the star is appearing in an excessive number of projects. Davidson highlighted Pascal’s decades-long career and recent surge in popularity, arguing that the actor deserves time to adjust to his newfound fame.
The discussion arose during Davidson’s appearance on the This Past Weekend with Theo Von podcast, where he acknowledged the swift shift in public perception surrounding Pascal. While initially celebrated, some viewers have expressed frustration with Pascal’s seemingly ubiquitous presence in recent releases, including the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us, and films like Gladiator II, Eddington, Materialists, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, all premiering within the past year.
“He’s worked so hard, he’s been a struggling actor and blows up so fing hard,” Davidson said, praising Pascal’s talent and work ethic, specifically mentioning *Eddington. “Everyone’s like, ‘Daddy, daddy.’ And then a year later, he’s like in everything now, cos he’s hot and big and everyone’s like, ‘Go the f* away, dude.’ It’s like, ‘Dude.'”
Davidson emphasized Pascal’s 30-year journey in the industry, suggesting that adjusting to a new level of fame requires time and understanding. “You’ve got to give someone time to adjust to that new level of fame,” he stated. “He’s been banging at it for 30 years and now he’s like, he’s learning how to get a cup of coffee or deal with someone that taps on your shoulder while you have your earbuds in and freaks you out. You have to give that guy a second to adjust.”
The SNL alum also predicted a similar cycle for actor Walton Goggins, suggesting that rapid rises to fame are often followed by equally swift criticism. “It’s like so fast [for people] to turn,” Davidson added. ”It’s within months.”
Pascal has several upcoming projects, including The mandalorian and Grogu film and Avengers: Doomsday, where he will reprise his role as Mister Fantastic. Both films are currently slated for release in 2026.
