Pete & Bas Rapper Collapses On Stage: Peter Bowditch Health Update

March 20, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

Rapper Pete Bowditch, one half of the British duo Pete & Bas, collapsed onstage during a performance in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday night, prompting concern from the audience and a temporary halt to the show. Footage circulating online shows Bowditch suspended from the ceiling by a harness when he appeared to lose consciousness and dropped his microphone.

The London-based pair, both in their 70s, were performing at the time of the incident. Backing dancers continued to perform as Bowditch remained motionless, suspended above the stage. According to a statement released by Pete & Bas’ management, Bowditch is now in stable condition. “We would like to apologise for last night’s show, the good news is Pete is now in a stable condition,” the statement read. “We’ll be issuing refunds to all ticket holders. All current European tour dates will still be going ahead.”

Bowditch later addressed the incident in a video posted from his hospital bed, joking about being “pronounced dead on stage.” He attributed the collapse to exhaustion, stating that doctors were able to revive him. Despite the scare, the duo intends to move forward with planned performances, including a forthcoming tour of the United States. “Now, Bas and I will be going on a massive 14-date US tour in June to celebrate,” Bowditch announced.

Pete & Bas gained prominence after beginning to write lyrics in 2017, drawing inspiration from the drill music scene. Their debut single, ‘Shut Ya Mouth’, followed shortly after. Bowditch, a retired Royal Mail employee, discovered the genre through his granddaughter’s music selections. He described learning the evolving slang of younger generations, noting how terms like “sick” and “fire” have replaced older expressions of approval.

The duo released their first full-length album, ‘Mugshot’, in 2024. They are currently scheduled to initiate a European tour next month, with performances planned in Amsterdam, Stockholm, Oslo, and Helsinki. The incident in Chicago occurred just prior to the start of this tour.
