Peruvian Cumbia Singer Andy Torres Shot Dead During Private Show in Lima
Peruvian cumbia singer Cristian Anderson Torres Zamora, known professionally as Andy Torres, was shot and killed at age 30 while performing at a private birthday celebration in Huaycán, a district in Ate, Lima, on the night of October 1. Two armed men mingled with guests before opening fire, striking Torres multiple times and injuring another member of his team.
Shooting Occurs During Private Birthday Performance in Huaycán
The attack took place at approximately 23:00 hours on Thursday, October 1, as Torres performed on stage during a scheduled two-hour booking at a birthday party. The singer had been on stage for roughly one hour when two suspects approached the performance area and fired up to seven shots. Torres died at the scene before medical personnel could intervene. Edison Daniel Peceros Gago, a 29-year-old event animator and member of the artist’s team, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm after reportedly attempting to shield Torres.

Police Launch Investigation and Review Surveillance Footage
Officers from the Policía Nacional del Perú secured the property immediately following the homicide, gathering physical evidence and interviewing party attendees. Investigators retrieved closed-circuit television footage showing one suspect fleeing along Andrés Avelino Cáceres avenue wearing dark clothing and khaki pants, while a second suspect escaped toward a nearby hillside sector. Initial police sweeps led to the temporary intervention of three individuals, though authorities subsequently released them after determining they had no connection to the crime.
Motive Remains Unconfirmed as Authorities Explore Competing Hypotheses
Investigators have not established a formal motive for the shooting. Law enforcement agencies are examining multiple theories, including potential rivalries within the Lima East music circuit. Additional lines of inquiry focus on Torres’s professional background, given that he formerly served as a member of the Policía Nacional del Perú prior to launching his career as a cumbia vocalist. Relatives of the artist stated to investigators that they were unaware of any prior threats or active disputes directed at Torres.
Specialists from the Homicidios division and the Dirincri continue to analyze witness statements and security recordings to identify the perpetrators. No official arrests of the gunmen had been announced by public safety officials.
