Person County has confirmed its sixth rabies exposure case of the year,following an incident involving a bat on Rolling Hills Road that led to two documented exposures,officials announced Tuesday.

The Person County Animal Services and Person County Health Department are urging residents to exercise heightened caution around wildlife and unfamiliar animals. key recommendations for public safety include remaining aware of your surroundings when outdoors, ensuring children and pets are supervised and kept away from wild animals, verifying that all domestic pets are current on their rabies vaccinations, and refraining from handling stray or injured animals, regardless of their apparent temperament.

Authorities emphasize that any individual who has been bitten or scratched by an animal, or whose pet has had an encounter with a wild animal, should immediately contact 911 and seek emergency medical attention.
