STATE COLLEGE,PA – Penn State University is on the verge of a meaningful apparel sponsorship change, shifting from Nike to Adidas, pending approval from the school’s Board of Trustees. The potential move would end a 31-year partnership with Nike that began in 1993, coinciding with Penn State’s entry into the Big Ten Conference.

Sources confirmed to On3 that the university is considering the switch. During its time with Nike, Penn State’s athletic programs have secured four Big Ten championships and made four Rose bowl appearances, winning two of them. This transition follows a recent trend in college athletics, with the Tennessee Volunteers announcing a 10-year deal with Adidas in mid-August. Adidas has now added both a prominent SEC program and a major Big Ten brand to its roster.

The Board of Trustees’ decision will determine whether Adidas will become the official apparel provider for Penn State Athletics. The news arrives during the opening week of the 2025 college football season, with Penn State having begun its campaign with a win against Nevada. Key upcoming matchups include games against Oregon and Ohio state.
