Peñíscola’s Film-Inspired Food Fair Serves 2,500 Tapas in Second Edition
Peñíscola hosted its second annual cinema-inspired gastronomic fair on September 26, 2026, drawing crowds to the Paseo Marítimo to sample dishes named after local film and television backdrops. Organized by the Tourism Department of the Ayuntamiento de Peñíscola, the single-day event ran from 11:00 to 20:00, serving 2,500 themed tapas—a 25% increase from the inaugural edition.
Extending the Tourism Calendar Beyond Peak Season
The culinary showcase arrives directly on the heels of the town’s Fiestas Patronales. According to Ramón Simó, the local tourism councilor, the strategic timing aims to sustain visitor foot traffic and economic activity after the summer high season concludes. By using the destination's rich cinematic history, local officials have created a fresh incentive for travelers to visit the Mediterranean coastal town.
Local Restaurants Deliver Audiovisual Tapas and Live Cooking
Eight local dining establishments participated in the 2026 event, offering a menu of ten distinct tapas priced between 3 € and 6,50 €. The culinary offerings paid direct homage to productions filmed on location in Peñíscola, featuring plates such as Arroz de Meereen, el Tesoro del Cid, Burguer Calabuch, Bravas de Ficción, Mini Hamburguesa Isla del Hierro, Mini Brioche de Meereen, Brocheta del Cid, Tarta Tizona, Pan París-Tumbuctú, and Tosta el Chiringuito de Pepe.
The participating kitchens included Caffé del Mar, Camino de Santiago, Porta d’Irta, Marínba Tío Pepe, Nacra, Roca Mar, Mareva Blue, and El Mercat. Between 16:00 and 18:00, chefs from Caffé del Mar, Marínba Tío Pepe, Nacra, and Porta d’Irta hosted live show-cookings along the Paseo Marítimo, sharing recipe tips and demonstrations with attendees.
Family Programming and Community Engagement
Beyond the adult tastings, the festival integrated free children’s programming designed to introduce younger audiences to culinary arts. Children participated in workshops where they prepared simple recipes, crafted decorations using dry foods, and painted kitchen utensils.
