Andrea Pellegrino of Italy defeated Argentina’s Francisco Comesana 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 6-3 in Santiago, Chile, on Tuesday, February 25, 2026, securing his first ATP Tour quarterfinal berth.

The match, played at the Court Jaime Fillol stadium, lasted nearly three hours, according to reports. Pellegrino, ranked 137th in the world, overcame a sluggish start that saw him fall behind 3-0 in the first set. He battled back, capitalizing on aggressive returns and consistent pressure to take the first set in a tiebreak, 7-3.

Comesana, the No. 7 seed and ranked 82nd, proved resilient, winning the second set tiebreak despite Pellegrino holding a match point at 5-2. The momentum shifted again in the deciding set, with Pellegrino ultimately prevailing 6-3.

This victory marks a significant milestone in Pellegrino’s career, as he advances to the quarterfinals of the BCI Seguros Chile Open. He had previously won two qualifying matches to reach the main draw. Comesana’s run at the tournament ends with this defeat.

Pellegrino’s performance demonstrated his ability to recover from setbacks and maintain intensity throughout a lengthy match. The 28-year-old from Puglia will now face a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the quarterfinal round.
