Pediatrician/Newborn Hospitalist – Boise, ID – Sign-on & Loan Repayment

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Saint Alphonsus Medical Group (SAMG) is recruiting a board-certified or board-eligible pediatrician to join its Boise, Idaho, team in a hybrid role combining ambulatory practice with the Newbornist service. The position aims to bolster pediatric care at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, the region’s only Level II Trauma Center, according to a recruitment notice.

The opening seeks a physician committed to a multidisciplinary team approach, joining an existing practice of six physicians and three advanced practice providers. The role will split time equally between pediatric clinic duties and inpatient care focused on newborns and their families. The Saint Alphonsus Family Maternity Center delivers over 1,200 infants annually.

The Newbornist component involves 24-hour shifts, with eight hours on-site and 16 hours of on-call support, backed by a Neonatology Team overnight. The clinic portion will follow a traditional perform week. Call responsibilities are limited to parent call, with answering and triage services provided, on a 1:8 rotation for one-week periods.

Saint Alphonsus emphasizes a family-centered approach, with 16 private family rooms in the post-partum unit designed for rooming-in. The medical center offers support services including lactation consultants, neonatal pharmacists, nutritionists, occupational therapists, social work and case management. The hospital collaborates with on-campus Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians and genetic counselors.

Responsibilities include physical examinations of newborn nursery patients, completing histories and physicals, daily progress notes, and discharge instructions, as well as parent education. Physicians will manage well-newborn patients, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, perform circumcisions and frenotomies, and provide on-call support, facilitating transfers to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) when necessary. They will also develop and maintain a patient panel in the clinic setting.

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree and have completed an accredited ACGME/AOA Pediatrics Residency. Idaho medical licensure and privileges at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC) in Boise are required. Desired attributes include team collaboration, leadership skills, a willingness to adhere to protocols, and strong surgical and OB sonography skills. Current DEA and controlled substance licenses are also necessary.

SAMG is offering recruitment packages including sign-on incentives, student loan repayment assistance, relocation support, PTO and CME allocation, malpractice insurance (including tail coverage), and health, dental, and vision benefits. A 403b retirement plan is also available. Interested candidates are directed to submit their CV through the application portal.
