Peaky Blinders to Continue with New Series on BBC and Netflix
The BBC and Netflix have announced the continuation of the Peaky Blinders saga with two new series, penned by creator and writer Steven Knight. These new installments will focus on a new generation of the Shelby family.
filming will take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, with the city itself serving as the backdrop for the story. Set in 1953, the series will depict Birmingham’s post-WWII reconstruction and the fierce competition to control the city’s rebuilding efforts.
Steven Knight expressed his excitement about the new chapter, stating the series will be ”rooted in Birmingham” and showcase a “hell of a ride” with the next generation of Shelbys at the helm.
BBC Drama Director Lindsay Salt highlighted the show’s enduring popularity and anticipation for Knight’s scripts,emphasizing the collaboration with Kudos,garrison Drama,and Netflix. Mona Qureshi of Netflix echoed this enthusiasm, praising Knight’s storytelling and the promise of captivating a global audience.
The production is a collaboration between Kudos (known for SAS Rogue Heroes and Grantchester) and Garrison Drama (the production company behind the original Peaky Blinders series and film).Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK, affirmed the show’s iconic status and the commitment to bringing Knight’s vision to life.
The return of Peaky Blinders is also expected to benefit the local economy. Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, noted the show’s positive impact on tourism and global recognition, and anticipates job creation for local residents.
each series will consist of six 60-minute episodes. Executive producers include Steven knight, Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Danielle Scott Haughton, Mona Qureshi, and Toby Bentley.
Production is supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and is the frist commission under a new BBC partnership agreement aimed at increasing production investment in the West Midlands region.
