Patriotic Front Conference: Makebi Zulu Leads Presidential Race – Live Updates
Lusaka-based lawyer Makebi Zulu is projected to win the Patriotic Front (PF) presidential election, according to provisional results from a virtual general conference held Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The election, which saw participation from seven candidates – Makebi Zulu, Chanda Katotobwe, Chishimba Kambwili, Chitalu Chilufya, Given Lubinda, Greyford Monde, and Joseph Mudolo – was conducted virtually, with Makebi Zulu taking a commanding lead in the early tallies. As of press time, Zulu had secured approximately 60% of the vote, significantly ahead of his closest rival, Chitalu Chilufya, who garnered 23.46%. Given Lubinda followed with 11.92%, while Greyford Monde, Chanda Katotobwe, and Joseph Mudolo received 2.69%, 1.92%, and an unspecified percentage respectively.
The PF faction led by Given Lubinda organized the conference, a long-awaited elective general conference, to determine its presidential candidate. The results indicate a clear preference for Zulu among party members. A live broadcast of the conference showed Zulu in the lead, according to reports.
The outcome of the PF presidential election is significant as the party seeks to reorganize and define its future political strategy. The virtual nature of the conference allowed for nationwide participation, despite logistical challenges.
