Patriot Hospice: Volunteer to Support Patients & Families | [City/Region]

February 19, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Youngstown, Ohio – Patriot Hospice is actively recruiting volunteers to support patients and families navigating end-of-life care across several counties in northeastern Ohio. The organization, which serves Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Portage, Summit, Stark, and Medina Counties, seeks individuals to provide companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance.

The need for volunteers comes as demand for hospice care continues to grow, according to Patriot Healthcare. Volunteers play a crucial role in complementing medical services by offering a human connection that addresses the emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients and their families. Opportunities range from direct patient interaction to administrative and creative tasks.

Specifically, Patriot Hospice is seeking volunteers for birthday and holiday cheer deliveries, bringing modest gifts and personalized wishes to patients in their homes or hospice facilities. These visits are intended to offer a warm and friendly interaction, respecting the patient’s condition and privacy. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, and be willing to undergo a background check and attend an orientation.

Beyond direct patient support, volunteer roles include providing respite for families, offering emotional support, and assisting with personal tasks to assist patients maintain dignity. Veteran-to-Veteran volunteers are also sought to share experiences and honor the service of fellow veterans receiving hospice care. Chaplains are needed to provide spiritual support through prayer and meaningful conversations.

Patriot Hospice emphasizes that volunteers are not authorized to act outside the scope of their assigned job description and must receive permission from their supervisor or the Volunteer Coordinator before undertaking any actions that could affect the organization’s liability. The organization provides training to all volunteers.

The hospice’s mission is to provide physical, spiritual, and emotional care that enhances the lives of patients and their families, treating them with dignity, respect, and honor. To qualify for hospice care through Patriot Hospice, a physician must certify that a patient has a life expectancy of six months or less, and the patient must agree to comfort care rather than curative treatment.
