Patrick Mahomes will experience his first Thanksgiving Day game as a professional when the kansas City Chiefs face the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday. The highly anticipated matchup marks a personal milestone for the quarterback, evoking childhood memories of the holiday tradition.

Mahomes expressed the importance of the opportunity during a press conference Tuesday, stating, “You grow up watching Thanksgiving games no matter who you’re a fan of…that kid in me wants to be able to go out there and play on Thanksgiving and find a way to win.” The game presents a unique challenge with a short week of readiness, but Mahomes emphasized the team’s focus on game planning and readiness.

Adding to the excitement, the game’s location in Texas allows for a larger gathering of Mahomes’ family and friends. His wife,Brittany, has coordinated attendance for over 50 loved ones who may not regularly travel to Kansas City for games. “Just getting to play back at home, and obviously have a lot of people in attendance that may not get to come up to Kansas City all the time and watch games,” Mahomes said,”it will be a really cool experience to play there [at AT&T Stadium],especially on Thanksgiving.”

Mahomes acknowledged the demanding schedule, noting the team is “grinding in here right now and getting the whole game plan in and making sure everybody’s prepared and ready to go.” He also highlighted the quality of their opponent, adding, “We’re excited to get to go out there and play on Thanksgiving against a really good football team and the whole world watching.”
