Patrick Franziska: Table Tennis Ace Adds Ulf Carlsson to Coaching Team
German table tennis player Patrick Franziska has enlisted Ulf Carlsson, a renowned figure in Swedish table tennis, as a personal coach, Franziska confirmed to the Sports Information Dienst (SID) on Friday.
The addition of Carlsson, known as “Tickan” within the table tennis community, aims to bolster Franziska’s performance as he currently holds a world ranking of 17 as of March 2, 2026, according to available rankings. His career-best ranking of 8 was achieved in January 2025.
Franziska, currently playing for FC Saarbrücken-TT in the German Bundesliga, has a decorated career including a silver medal in the team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and bronze medals at the 2023 Durban World Championships in doubles. He is a seven-time European champion, with six titles coming in team competitions and one in doubles.
Carlsson brings a wealth of experience to the partnership. While details of the coaching arrangement remain undisclosed, the move signals Franziska’s commitment to refining his game ahead of upcoming competitions. He has recently been seen working with Franziska, as evidenced by a post on Facebook.
Franziska’s most recent tournament successes include a victory at the WTT Champions Incheon event in 2025 and the WTT Contender Muscat tournament in 2026. He is scheduled to compete in the WTT Contender Muscat tournament later in 2026.
