Pat Ingoldsby’s poetry to be released on new spoken-word album, rte.ie reports
Pat Ingoldsby’s poetry will reach audiences on a new spoken-word album titled One Good Sparkle, rte.ie reported. The digital release arrives this Monday, followed by a compact disc version, after a funding campaign earlier this year organized by Athlone-based publishing house Luain Press.
Release Details and Contributing Artists
The album features 18 poems written by Ingoldsby, who passed away last year at the age of 82. Musical accompaniment is provided by Welsh pianist and composer Philip May. Listeners can already access three available tracks: Words to the Virus Which Found Me in 1942, featuring a reading by the poet himself; Da Down the Garden, narrated by Daragh Fleming; and the title track, voiced by Anna D.
Spoken word performers Mikey Cullen, Emmet O’Brien, Stephen Maguire, Leon Dunne, Jan Brierton, Stephen James Smith, Ryan Duggins, Lee Sheridan, Annie Peter, David Hynes, Steve O’Toole, and Holly Hughes also contribute additional readings to the album. Singer Imelda May also appears on the recording.
Preserving a Literary Legacy
Ingoldsby maintained a long career on RTÉ television hosting children’s programs, writing for stage and radio, publishing short stories and poetry, and writing a newspaper column. Leaving fame behind around the age of fifty-one, he chose to devote the remainder of his days exclusively to verse, spending twenty years hawking his volumes along Dublin’s thoroughfares.
Vivienne Baillie, the keeper of Ingoldsby’s poems, noted that the author often worried his work would not survive him. Regarding the new release, Baillie told rte.ie that Luain Press produced an album the writer would have been very proud of because it features a younger generation of poets bringing his life’s work forward.
