SEOUL,SOUTH KOREA – Australian Para climber Sarah Larcombe has claimed silver at the 2025 World Championships in Seoul, repeating her previous achievement and solidifying her position as a leading contender ‍for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. The ⁣victory ⁣marks a⁣ significant milestone for Larcombe, who overcame ample injury setbacks in the lead-up to the competition.

In the demanding⁣ sport‌ of climbing, success‍ frequently enough hinges on the smallest of margins – just two or three holds, or a handful of movements. These critical differences determine qualification and ultimately, medal placement. The Australian sport ⁢Climbing ⁤team demonstrated career-best performances throughout‍ the initial⁤ stages of the World Championships, building momentum towards the Brisbane 2032 and Los Angeles 2028 Games.

LarcombeS silver medal performance came despite a challenging twelve months. “My preparation for Seoul World Championships was not what⁣ I expected, and not what I wanted,” Larcombe stated. She ⁤sustained⁤ fractures ⁣in her foot, leg, and back following a fall while climbing outdoors ⁣in February.

Undeterred,Larcombe continued training in⁤ Melbourne ⁣under the guidance‍ of National Para Coach Alex MacInnes and local coach Sarah Davis. “I‍ was having a lot ⁤of fun climbing outdoors in my ‍off-season, and in February I⁣ took ⁣a pretty nasty fall and I broke bones in my foot, ‌leg and my back,” she explained. Despite the limited recovery⁢ time, she entered the World Championships with confidence.

Para climbing will make its Paralympic debut in Los Angeles, and Larcombe⁣ is focused ⁢on securing Australia‘s first medal in the sport. Supported by the Victorian Institute of sport and Sport ‍Climbing Australia, Larcombe is persistent to reach her goal.

“[It’s] just a matter of time,” for both Larcombe and the broader Australian Sport Climbing team, who are poised for continued ‌success.
