Panama Pension Bonus 2026: $140 Payment Schedule for CSS Retirees

Panama’s Social Security Fund (CSS) will distribute a permanent bonus totaling $140 to retirees and pensioners throughout 2026, according to a recent announcement from the institution. The payments will be made in three installments: $50 in April, $50 in August, and $40 in December.

The benefit, established under Law 964 of June 2024, aims to provide supplemental financial support to seniors who rely on their pensions as a primary source of income. The CSS confirmed that payments will be disbursed through standard methods, including ACH transfers and checks, based on individual beneficiary arrangements.

The initiative comes as Panama seeks to bolster social protections for its aging population. According to reporting from La República, the bonus is intended to help cover essential expenses such as medication and basic goods. The funding for the program will be drawn from 30.77% of revenue generated by the selective consumption tax on alcoholic beverages, as stipulated in Law 45 of 1945.

While the legal framework for the bonus was established in 2024, initial reports in March 2025 indicated a planned rollout beginning in April of that year, as reported by Mi Diario. However, the CSS has now confirmed the disbursement schedule will commence in April 2026. The CSS has urged beneficiaries to monitor official communications for specific details regarding payment delivery.

The program will benefit over 318,000 retirees and pensioners, according to Mi Diario. The CSS has not yet released details regarding any potential eligibility requirements beyond current enrollment in the Régime de Invalidez, Vejez y Muerte (IVM) or Riesgos Profesionales programs.
