Palmeiras Weighs Options for Young Full-Back Gilberto Ahead of 2026 Season
Palmeiras is assessing the future of promising full-back Gilberto as the club finalizes its plans for the 2026 season, according to reports. While the 20-year-old recently signed a contract extension, his place in Abel Ferreira’s squad is not yet guaranteed.
Gilberto, a standout performer for Palmeiras’ Under-20 team, will begin the club’s campaign in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. A potential loan move following the tournament is under consideration, with a final decision expected during post-season planning meetings after the conclusion of the Brazilian Championship. He signed a contract extension with Alviverde in April, keeping him with the club through 2027.
The evaluation of Gilberto’s role comes as Palmeiras prepares for meaningful roster adjustments, including potential player sales to meet a projected R$384 million revenue target from athlete negotiations for the 2026 season. The club’s guidance and Supervisory Council (COF) unanimously approved the 2026 budget on Tuesday (December 3rd).
Young players developed within Palmeiras’ youth system, such as Riquelme Fillipi, Benedetti, and Allan, are seen as key contributors to this revenue goal.
Palmeiras’ upcoming schedule includes:
* Atlético-MG x Palmeiras – Brazilian Championship – December 3rd – 9:30 pm (Brasília time)
* Ceará x Palmeiras - Brazilian Championship – December 7th – 4pm (Brasília time)
