Pakistan Polio Cases Rise: New Infections Confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh

New Polio Cases Emerge in Pakistan, Raising Annual tally

Three new polio cases have been reported in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, bringing the national total for the year to 17. The cases involve a 14-month-old child from Miranshah-3 Council in North Waziristan district, a 15-month-old child from Lakki Marwat district, and a 6-month-old child from Mir Ali-3 Union Council, also in North Waziristan district.

additionally, a case was diagnosed in a 60-month-old child from Chajro Union Council in Umerkot district, Sindh province. This brings the total number of polio cases in Pakistan this year to 17, with 10 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five in Sindh, one in Punjab, and one in Gilgit-Baltistan.

In response to the ongoing threat of polio, vaccination campaigns are underway. A campaign was conducted between July 21 and 27 in border areas, synchronized with a similar effort in Afghanistan.Furthermore, a vaccination drive commenced on July 21 in Chaman district and is scheduled to expand to six other districts in balochistan province by July 28.
