Pairi Daiza’s Edenya: World’s Largest Tropical Greenhouse Near Lille 🌴

March 24, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Pairi Daiza, the renowned animal park near Brussels, Belgium, opened Edenya, the world’s largest tropical greenhouse, to the public on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The 4-hectare structure, representing a €215 million investment, aims to immerse visitors in a tropical ecosystem complete with a diverse range of plant and animal life.

Edenya has secured multiple Guinness World Records, including the title of largest tropical greenhouse, measuring 206 meters in length and 192 meters in width, with a peak height of 24 meters. The park also anticipates recognition for housing the greatest diversity of cultivated plant species under glass – currently boasting an inventory of 1,800 species, including rare specimens like the coco de mer and descendants of the Buddha tree. It claims the title of largest covered zoological ecosystem, housing over 230 animal species in a living, dynamic environment.

The design of Edenya prioritizes the natural environment, featuring a flat roof to allow palm trees to grow to heights of up to 25 meters without pruning. A dedicated 5,000 square meter area is devoted to air and water filtration, maintaining a consistent 18°C (64°F) temperature year-round without the use of fossil fuels, utilizing AGC Glass insulating technology.

Pairi Daiza founder Eric Domb envisioned Edenya as an evolution of the park’s original concept – a bird garden established over 30 years ago on the site of a former abbey. The project involved 90% local companies, highlighting its regional economic impact.

Visitors to Edenya can expect to encounter a wide array of flora and fauna within the greenhouse. Even as some species are still being introduced, the park asserts the experience is already compelling. Access to Edenya requires a supplemental ticket, costing approximately €7, in addition to the standard park admission fee.

The park is currently awaiting confirmation of a fourth Guinness World Record for the largest underwater hotel in the world, which is also located within the Edenya complex.
