Packers Cornerback Nate Hobbs Out for Season After Knee Surgery

Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs will miss the remainder of the team’s offseason program after undergoing accomplished surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee this past weekend, according to ESPN sources.

the injury is a setback for the Packers, who signed Hobbs, 23, to a four-year contract worth $36 million with $18 million guaranteed in March, making him a key addition to their defensive secondary. Hobbs joined the Packers after spending his first three NFL seasons (2021-2023) with the Las Vegas Raiders.

While surgery wasn’t initially deemed mandatory for hobbs’ recovery, he proactively chose the procedure to prevent potential aggravation of the injury during the upcoming season. He did not participate in practice on Friday, May 17th, at the Packers’ training facility in Green bay, Wisconsin.

“I get paid to do this, so anything that’s a concern on my body, I need to try to get on right away,” Hobbs stated.”I felt like it was something we needed to do. They gave me the option of whether I wanted to do it the next day or the day after, I’m like, ‘We can do this today. Let’s get ahead of starting to get back.'”

packers head coach Matt LaFleur has not provided a definitive timeline for Hobbs’ return, but indicated there is optimism he could be available for the team’s regular season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 8th, at Lambeau Field. The Packers finished the 2023 season with an 8-9 record and are looking to improve their pass defense, which ranked 26th in the NFL, allowing 254.8 passing yards per game.
