Orthodox Christians mark feast day of Probus, Tarach, Andronicus
Orthodox Christians mark the feast day of Probus, Tarach, and Andronicus on October 25, 2026, observing traditions and specific prohibitions tied to the ancient martyrs.
Martyrdom Under Diocletian
Probus, Tarach, and Andronicus lived during the reign of Roman Emperor Diocletian in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia, located in modern-day Turkey. In 304 AD, authorities brought the three Christians before Proconsul Numerius Maximus and ordered them to offer public sacrifices to pagan gods.
Tarach refused, stating he offered sacrifices only to the true God with a pure heart. Officials subjected Tarach, Probus, and Andronicus to repeated beatings and imprisonment. According to the historical account, authorities threw the Christian men to lions, but the animals left them untouched. Guards then cut the believers to pieces, and fellow Christians secretly recovered and buried their remains.
Stargazing Traditions and Weather Omens
Folklore holds that twinkling stars signal an approaching weather change, while brightly burning stars indicate a dry year ahead and windy days. A visible abundance of stars points to a strong harvest, dim stars foretell a thaw, and a blue stellar gleam warns of impending frosts.

A weak wind points to an extended period of cloudy weather. Southern winds bring warmth, while northern winds deliver cold air. Thunder on October 25 signals a winter devoid of snow.
Behavioral Guidelines Forbid Loud Laughter and Home Repairs
Believers observe specific behavioral guidelines throughout the day. Tradition encourages visiting a planetarium or observing the night sky, alongside spending time in a calm atmosphere with friends and family members.
Conversely, the date carries several firm prohibitions. Loud laughter is strictly forbidden, and occupants must not ask “Who is there?” from behind a door in response to a knock or ring. Cultural directives warn against holding grudges, performing home repairs such as whitewashing walls, or purchasing new bed linen.
