UMaine System Expands Online Learning with Six New degree programs
AUGUSTA, Maine – Teh University of Maine System is considerably broadening access to higher education with the launch of six new fully online degree programs, effective this fall. The expansion includes options in high-demand fields like early childhood education, homeland security, and medical laboratory science, alongside programs in American Studies and human services.
This initiative directly addresses a system-wide goal established in 2023 to double the number of online programs by 2028, responding to the evolving needs of MaineS workforce and students seeking flexible learning opportunities. Currently, the UMaine System offers over 200 programs fully online, and these additions further solidify its commitment to accessibility. The new degrees available are a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education,a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (offered jointly by the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Maine at Presque Isle),a Master of Science in Homeland Security,a Master of Arts in American Studies,an Associate of Arts in Human Services,and an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education – all through the University of maine at Presque Isle.
The early childhood education programs are anticipated to begin accepting students later this fall. This expansion aims to provide crucial educational pathways for Maine residents and beyond, offering career advancement and skill development through a convenient, online format.
