One Person Dies in Austin Construction Site Electrical Incident
Austin police responded late last week to a call at a construction site on Reserve Road where one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another person did not require transport to the hospital. Austin police, fire, and emergency medical services responded to the scene where one person was pronounced dead and another individual was evaluated and released without requiring hospital transport.
Emergency Response and Site Extraction on Reserve Road
Austin police initially responded to the Reserve Road construction site late last week after receiving an emergency call regarding an electrical incident. Austin Fire Department officials reported that Austin Energy cut power to a utility line located near two workers at the scene.
The first Austin Energy truck dispatched to the location was too small to reach the affected area, prompting crews to call for a second, larger utility truck which police escorted directly to the site.
Emergency responders utilized a ladder truck equipped with a bucket to retrieve both individuals. One worker was successfully retrieved alive, while the second person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the statesman.com report.
Medical Evaluation of the Surviving Worker
The surviving worker was described by authorities as “down and safe” during the extraction process. Shannon Koesterer, public information officer for Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, stated that the second individual experienced minor complaints following the incident.
That worker ultimately refused medical attention at the scene and did not require transport to a hospital. Koesterer indicated that no further updates regarding the second person’s health status were available.
