Mavericks travel too Yale for Weekend Hockey Series
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Omaha mavericks hockey team will head east this weekend for a two-game non-conference series against Yale University, marking their first matchup against an unranked opponent this season.puck drop is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
This series represents a key chance for the Mavericks (8-6-2) to build momentum before entering a bye week and resuming NCHC play. Omaha is coming off a split series against Miami, and a strong showing against Yale could provide a boost as they prepare for a challenging December 12-13 road series at North Dakota. The Mavericks and Bulldogs have met six times previously, with omaha securing an 8-3 victory in their last encounter on December 29, 2008.
During Saturday’s game against Miami, freshman forward Tanner Kelly scored his first career goal at 16:21 in the second period, assisted by sophomore defenseman Joe Gramer and freshman defenseman Spencer Sova. senior forward Cameron Mitchell then cut the deficit to one nine seconds into the third period, scoring his ninth career goal with assists from freshman forward Luke Woodworth and co-captain senior defenseman Griffin Ludtke.
Freshman goaltender Dawson Cowan, recently named NCHC Rookie of the Week, made 28 saves with a .903 save percentage in his third appearance of the season and first at home. He has a total of 96 saves through three games.
Currently, sophomore forward Maxime Pellerin leads Omaha with nine points, including a team-high five goals. Luke Woodworth is also at nine points after recording his sixth assist of the season.Griffin Ludtke remains the Mavericks’ assist leader with eight.
Following the Yale series, Omaha will travel to grand Forks, N.D., for an NCHC series at North Dakota on December 12-13.
