Ohio University Health Insurance: Requirements & Costs

Ohio⁢ University Students Have Options for Health Insurance Coverage

ATHENS, OH – Ohio University students have multiple options for health ‍insurance coverage for the‌ 2025-2026 academic year, including the university-sponsored plan, remaining on a parent’s‍ plan, or utilizing ‌other qualifying coverage. Students must actively choose a plan or submit a waiver to avoid being automatically enrolled in the OU health insurance plan.

The university plan offers ‍four deductible options and four out-of-pocket maximums, details of which are available on ‍the ⁤enrollment Forms and Policy Brochures website.

Students covered‌ by an alternative health insurance ‍plan may opt out ‍of‍ the OU⁢ plan. Those who remain on their ⁣parents’ insurance,⁤ or have other qualifying coverage, can utilize the OhioHealth Campus Care center⁤ and access available medical services, with OhioHealth Campus Care billing their insurance provider directly.

The deadline to⁢ submit a waiver for the‌ Fall 2025 term is September 12. Once approved, this‍ waiver will automatically extend coverage for the Spring and Summer 2026 terms.

Students who miss⁤ the September 12 deadline might potentially be eligible for a one-time courtesy late waiver, provided they meet specific criteria. To qualify, students must possess health insurance coverage that meets the university’s waiver‍ requirements, have not previously received a courtesy late waiver or filed an appeal, and have no claims filed against the OU student health insurance plan. Applications for the courtesy late waiver must ⁢be⁣ submitted within 30 days of the initial deadline.

Navigating health insurance can be challenging for new students, but ohio University ‍aims to provide clear options and resources ‍to⁢ ensure access to healthcare.
