buckeye Bridge: Ohio State & Columbus State Launch tuition-free Bachelor’s Degree Pathway
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) –
Ohio State University and Columbus State Community college announced a transformative new initiative, Buckeye Bridge, on Monday, offering a tuition-free pathway for eligible Ohio students to complete their bachelor’s degrees. the program represents a significant investment in accessibility and affordability in higher education.
Buckeye Bridge is a cornerstone of Ohio state President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr.’s “Education for Citizenship 2035” strategic framework, which prioritizes expanding access to education, reducing financial barriers, and bolstering workforce development across the state.
“with this program, students will be able to develop the skills they need for in-demand careers that require four-year degrees,” President Carter stated. “We’re so pleased to join with our longtime partners at Columbus State on this important effort to empower Ohioans and strengthen our state’s economic future.”
The initiative specifically targets low- to middle-income Ohio residents who have already earned an associate degree from Columbus State. Buckeye Bridge will cover 100% of tuition and mandatory fees for these students as they continue their education at Ohio State’s Columbus campus. Currently, over 1,000 students transfer from Columbus State to Ohio State annually; Buckeye Bridge aims to substantially increase this number by streamlining and financially supporting the transfer process.
“Together, Columbus State and Ohio State are not only helping students launch successful careers, we’re strengthening the talent ecosystem that drives our region’s economic prosperity,” said Columbus State President David Harrison. “This partnership is a powerful example of how collaboration can unlock opportunities for students and benefit the entire community.”
Buckeye bridge guarantees admission to Ohio State’s Columbus campus for qualifying students pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The program provides eligibility for up to eight semesters, or until the completion of a first bachelor’s degree. It’s important to note that certain academic majors may have additional admission requirements beyond the general program criteria.
