Ohio‍ State University and Columbus State Community college announced ⁢a transformative new initiative, Buckeye ⁣Bridge,⁣ on Monday, offering a tuition-free pathway for ‌eligible Ohio students to complete their bachelor’s degrees. the ⁢program represents a significant investment⁢ in accessibility and affordability in higher ⁤education.

Buckeye Bridge is a cornerstone ​of ⁣Ohio state‌ President Walter​ “Ted” Carter Jr.’s “Education for Citizenship 2035” strategic framework, which prioritizes expanding ‌access to education, reducing financial barriers, and bolstering workforce development ‍across‌ the state.

“with this program, students will be ⁣able to develop ⁣the skills⁢ they ​need⁣ for in-demand careers‌ that require four-year degrees,” President Carter stated. “We’re so pleased to join with our longtime partners‌ at ‌Columbus State on this important effort to ‍empower Ohioans and strengthen our state’s economic future.”

The initiative specifically targets low- to middle-income Ohio residents who have ⁤already‌ earned ‍an associate degree ⁣from Columbus State.⁤ Buckeye‌ Bridge ​will cover 100% of tuition and mandatory ⁢fees for these students​ as⁢ they continue ​their education at Ohio State’s Columbus campus. Currently, over 1,000 students transfer from‌ Columbus State to Ohio State annually; Buckeye Bridge aims to substantially increase this number by streamlining and financially ⁢supporting ​the transfer process.

“Together,‍ Columbus State and Ohio State are not only helping students launch successful careers, we’re strengthening the talent ecosystem ⁢that ⁢drives⁤ our region’s economic prosperity,” said Columbus State⁢ President David‌ Harrison. “This partnership is a powerful example of how‍ collaboration can⁣ unlock opportunities for ‍students and benefit ⁤the entire community.”

Buckeye‌ bridge guarantees admission to Ohio State’s Columbus campus for qualifying⁤ students​ pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The program provides eligibility for ​up to eight ⁤semesters, or ‍until the completion ‌of a ​first⁤ bachelor’s degree. It’s important to note that certain⁤ academic majors may have additional admission requirements beyond the⁤ general program criteria.

Eligibility Requirements

To ‌qualify⁤ for the Buckeye Bridge program, students must meet ⁤the​ following ‌criteria:

  • Be a resident ‍of the state of​ Ohio.
  • Successfully complete an associate⁢ degree ‌at Columbus State Community College.
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually.
  • Maintain full-time enrollment status at Ohio State university.
  • Have a family⁤ Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $100,000 or less.

The program ⁣is slated‍ to officially‌ launch⁢ for students graduating from Columbus State in Spring 2026, with enrollment at Ohio State beginning⁣ in the Autumn semester of the ‍same year. This timeline allows prospective students ample time to plan ​and prepare for this remarkable opportunity.
