Louisville, Ky. – Ohio Field Hockey began its 2025 campaign with a 5-0 defeat against Michigan State on Saturday, August 30. The Bobcats encountered a strong Spartan offense in their season opener, held in Louisville, Kentucky.
The loss marks the first of the season for Ohio (0-1), as they faced a Michigan State team that came out aggressively. This contest initiates a weekend road trip for the Bobcats, testing their resilience early in the year and providing valuable experience against a Big Ten opponent. Ohio will quickly regroup to face tournament host Louisville on Sunday, seeking their first win of the season.
Michigan State established a commanding lead with three goals in the first quarter, extending it to 4-0 by halftime. Despite a persistent effort from Ohio,the Spartans added one more goal in the third quarter to finalize the score.
Freshman Tiana Nhamoinesu led the Bobcats’ offensive push with four shots, while fellow newcomer Adi Geer contributed three. Sophomore goalkeeper Ash Stephenson delivered a strong performance,recording 12 saves throughout the game.
Ohio registered 13 total shots, with five directed on goal, while Michigan State tallied 19 shots, 13 of which tested Stephenson. The Bobcats demonstrated periods of pressure, earning a penalty corner in the third quarter and forcing multiple saves from the Spartan defense, but were unable to convert opportunities into goals.
