First Batch of OFWs Repatriated from Iran Amidst Israel-Iran Conflict

MANILA,Philippines – The Philippine government successfully repatriated the first group of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Iran today,June 28th,as tensions escalate between Iran and Israel. Six OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City aboard Emirates flight EK 334, marking a crucial step in the government’s ongoing repatriation efforts [[3]].
This initial group includes five shrimp hatchery technicians and one domestic worker traveling with her employer. The repatriation program was initiated following President Marcos jr.’s order for the “safe, timely, and orderly return” of Filipinos in conflict-affected areas, raising the alert level to 3 in both Iran and Israel [[1]].
Officials from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Management (OWWA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and Department of Social Welfare and Development welcomed the returning OFWs. OWWA will cover their accommodation in Manila and flights to their respective home provinces.
The government is currently processing over 200 repatriation requests and continues to monitor the situation closely, standing ready to provide assistance – including financial support and reintegration aid – to all affected OFWs [[3]].
