Off-Duty Auxiliary Police Officer Arrested After Fatal Tesla Collision With Motorcyclist in Pok Fu Lam

October 3, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A 63-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a Tesla vehicle driven by an off-duty auxiliary police officer at the intersection of Victoria Road and Mount Davis Path in Western District on October 1.

Fatal Crash on Victoria Road

The collision occurred at approximately 10:31 p.m. on October 1, according to reports from hk01.com. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, with the Tesla's front license plate dislodged and the scooter tipping onto its side, as detailed by the sources.

Police Arrest Tesla Driver for Dangerous Driving

The driver of the Tesla, a 50-year-old man surnamed Jiang, passed initial drug and alcohol breath tests at the scene. However, officers from the Hong Kong Island Regional Traffic Department Special Investigation Team arrested him on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death. Jiang, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, has been released on bail and must report back to authorities in early November, hk01.com reported. The Hong Kong Island Regional Traffic Department Special Investigation Team has appealed to any witnesses or individuals with relevant footage or information to contact investigators directly at 3660 6848.

Victim's Family Questions Tesla Driver's Actions

The victim was a cleansing company driver with years of riding experience who worked primarily night shifts and used his scooter for daily commuting. He lived in Wah Fu Estate, Aberdeen, with his wife, their 21-year-old son who is still studying, and his elder sister, serving as one of the household’s primary financial pillars. Relatives expressed deep anguish over the sudden loss and questioned whether the Tesla driver failed to check the road properly while emerging from a minor road onto a major thoroughfare. Pointing out that the driver is an auxiliary police officer, the family asserted that he should be acutely familiar with traffic regulations, though the victim’s sister emphasized that the family is not in a position to assign formal blame while police inquiries continue.

Container Truck Loses Control at Lung Fu Road

The collision in Western District coincided with a separate vehicular incident reported by the sources on the morning of October 2, where a container truck lost control at the Lung Fu Road roundabout along the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel Road and mounted a concrete divider.

Unresolved Questions Surrounding the Collision

Official investigations remain ongoing to determine the precise sequence of movements and right-of-way compliance for both the Tesla and the motorcycle prior to impact. Authorities have not yet concluded what factors led the vehicles to collide at the Victoria Road and Mount Davis Path junction, and further determinations depend on the forensic analysis being conducted by the regional traffic investigation unit.
