Tropical Storm Priscilla Impacts Baja California Sur
As of today, October 9th, Tropical Storm Priscilla is moving slowly off the western coast of Baja California Sur. The storm’s circulation is forecast to bring very strong, intermittent rains and intense winds to the region. Coastal areas of Baja California Sur, Sinaloa, and Nayarit are also expected to experience intervals of showers and strong winds, accompanied by high waves.
Potential Cyclonic Advancement and Widespread Rainfall
Beyond Priscilla, meteorologists are monitoring two low-pressure areas with the potential for cyclonic development. One is located south of Oaxaca, and the other is off the coast of Veracruz. These systems, interacting with a mid-level atmospheric trough and remnants of the monsoon trough in the mexican South Pacific, are expected to generate very strong to intense rainfall across northeastern, eastern, southern, and southeastern Mexico, including the Yucatan Peninsula.
Specifically, authorities are predicting remarkable occasional rains in San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Puebla, and Veracruz, with occasional torrential rains anticipated in Oaxaca. The central region of the country, including the Valley of Mexico, should prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Northern and Western Mexico to See Increased Showers
A low-pressure channel over the Sierra Madre Occidental, combined with moisture influx from both the Pacific Ocean and the gulf of Mexico, will contribute to showers and heavy rains in the northern and western states of Mexico.
