MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız announced that parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş is considering having a small delegation – perhaps 3-4 members – from the National solidarity, Brotherhood adn Democracy Commission meet with imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to obtain his views.

Yıldız’s statement came during a discussion of the Commission’s ongoing work, established on August 5th, 2025, to explore pathways towards a “Turkey without terrorism.” The Commission has been gathering input from a wide range of sources, including citizens, institutions, ngos, and political parties. Recent consultations included hearing suggestions from former Speakers of the Turkish grand national Assembly.

According to Yıldız, Kurtulmuş intends to carefully consider the timing and method of any potential meeting with Öcalan, ensuring it does not undermine the Commission’s objectives or the current strong position of the Turkish state.

Yıldız stated: “In order to receive the statements of Abdullah Öcalan, the timing and method of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission will not form a weakness.”

The Commission’s work is expected to continue next week with further negotiations. The initiative reflects a broader effort to understand the dynamics surrounding the issue of terrorism in Turkey and explore potential solutions.
