Emergency crews and police responded to the Dublin Sports Grounds, located roughly 35 miles east of San Francisco, shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. Witnesses reported hearing a flurry of gunshots before seeing McKinsey collapse with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to witnesses speaking to KGO-TV, the two elderly suspects were seen walking together near the victim before casually walking away from the shooting. An officer passing by detained Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen nearby within minutes.
Dublin Police Services booked both suspects into Santa Rita Jail. In addition to murder and conspiracy charges, jail records show the couple faces allegations of willfully discharging a firearm with gross negligence and child abuse, though municipal records do not immediately explain the specific circumstances behind the child abuse charge. Additional filings from the New York Post reveal that McKinsey faced criminal charges in October 2025, when prosecutors filed two misdemeanor counts of child abuse after Jang alleged he struck her 6-year-old son in the face with an open hand.
