Nvidia DLSS 4 Games Announced, DLSS 5 Previewed at GTC

March 30, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Nvidia unveiled DLSS 5, a new AI-powered technology poised to significantly alter the landscape of gaming graphics, at its GTC 2026 conference last week. The announcement, described by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang as “the GPT moment for graphics,” introduces a real-time neural rendering model designed to infuse pixels with photorealistic lighting and materials.

Unlike previous iterations of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) which focused on upscaling resolution and generating frames, DLSS 5 utilizes AI to reconstruct entire scenes, adding detail and effects previously unattainable without substantial processing power. This includes simulating global illumination, sub-surface scattering, and fabric sheen, effectively bridging the gap between rendering and reality, according to Nvidia.

The technology has already drawn both excitement and scrutiny. Whereas Nvidia showcased impressive demos at GTC, including a revitalized version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, concerns have been raised regarding the potential for the technology to act as an “Instagram-like image filter” for game characters, altering their appearance in ways that may not align with artistic intent. Huang addressed these concerns directly, emphasizing the importance of artistic control within the new system.

Several game developers have already committed to integrating DLSS 5 into upcoming titles. Notably, South Korean game studio NCSoft’s Aion 2 is the first Korean game to partner with Nvidia on the technology. Other confirmed titles include Resident Evil™ Requiem, EA SPORTS FC™, Starfield, and Hogwarts Legacy. A tech demo, Zorah, was also presented.

Nvidia anticipates a Fall 2026 release for DLSS 5. While demonstrations at GTC utilized two RTX 5090 graphics cards, the company stated that the technology is intended to function on a single GPU upon its official launch. The company also announced advancements to GeForce NOW, including 90fps streaming, and DLSS 4.5 Dynamic MFG.

The unveiling of DLSS 5 coincided with the announcement of Nvidia’s new “Vera Rubin” GPU architecture and ARM-based gaming laptop chips, the N1X, signaling a broad push by the company to redefine the gaming experience. The long-term implications of DLSS 5, and whether it will deliver on its promise of a significant leap in visual realism, remain to be seen.
