NutrIA: AI Nutrition App by Chilean Founder Pedro Cisternas
Santiago, Chile – Pedro Cisternas, son of prominent Chilean journalist Diana Bolocco, is rapidly gaining recognition in the startup world with NutrIA, an artificial intelligence-powered application designed to simplify nutritional tracking. The app, launched initially as a spontaneous project during Semana Santa 2025, is now generating significant revenue and attracting attention from investors and health-conscious users.
Cisternas, a former professional footballer, co-founded NutrIA with skier Nicolás Pirozzi. The pair met just over a year ago and bonded over a shared interest in building technology and documenting the process publicly. Their initial foray into app development began as a three-day “hackathon” on the beach, resulting in a functional prototype capable of analyzing food from a photograph and providing calorie and nutritional information.
NutrIA’s core function is to provide users with a quick and accessible way to understand the nutritional content of their meals. Users simply upload a photo of their plate, and the app estimates the calorie count and key nutrients. This feature addresses a common barrier to healthy eating – the often-tedious process of manually logging food intake. The app is currently available on Google Play.
The startup’s business model gained traction with the introduction of a voluntary payment system. This resulted in a substantial increase in conversion rates, jumping from 3% to between 10% and 15%, according to reports to Diario Financiero. As of March 2026, NutrIA has over 3,100 active subscribers and generates approximately $9,400 in monthly revenue, with total earnings reaching $66,000 in 2025.
NutrIA’s visibility has been further boosted by endorsements from public figures, including former NFL player Sammis Reyes, who has showcased the app’s capabilities on social media. Cisternas himself leverages a significant social media presence – with over 140,000 followers on Instagram and 35,000 on TikTok – to promote NutrIA and engage with potential users. He also represented C1DO1 at an international conference in London, highlighting the growing strength of Latin American AI-driven startups.
The success of NutrIA reflects a broader trend of utilizing AI to democratize access to nutritional information, particularly in regions like Latin America where health tech adoption faces cost and technological barriers. The app’s founders emphasize its mission to craft healthy eating “easy and accessible for everyone.”
