Nuno Espírito Santo Appointed West Ham United Head Coach Following Potter Sacking
LONDON, UK – West Ham United have swiftly appointed Nuno Espírito Santo as their new head coach, replacing Graham Potter who was dismissed earlier today. The move comes after a disappointing start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, leaving West Ham 19th in the table with just three points from five games – a record of four losses and one win against Nottingham Forest.
Potter’s departure marks the end of a short tenure,having been appointed in january on a two-and-a-half-year contract following the exit of Julen Lopetegui. The club stated the decision to relieve Potter of his duties was due to results “not matching expectations” and a need to ”improve the team’s position in the Premier League quickly.”
Nuno Espírito Santo’s first match in charge will be an away fixture against Everton on Monday night, managed by former West Ham boss David Moyes.
Potter secured only six wins in 23 Premier League games, with West Ham finishing 14th last season. His entire coaching staff – assistant coach Bruno Saltor, first team coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, and goalkeeper coaches Casper Ankergren and Linus Kandolin – have also left the club. West Ham thanked Potter and his staff, wishing them success in the future.
Nuno’s arrival follows his recent sacking from Nottingham forest, despite having signed a new contract with the club over the summer. Reports suggest a breakdown in his relationship with Forest co-owner Evangelos Marinakis, with Nuno stating in August that their relationship was “not the same” and ”not so good as it was [last season].” He also publicly criticised Forest’s transfer strategy, describing his squad as “unbalanced” and “very, very far” from being ready for the season.
In contrast, Potter had expressed alignment with West Ham’s hierarchy regarding recent performances just a day prior to his dismissal, telling Sky Sports News he felt on “the same page” following their 2-1 home loss to Crystal Palace.
