NTT Docomo experiences network outages after illegal server intrusión

NTT Docomo experiences network outages after illegal server intrusión

November 5, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest mobile telecommunications operator, is experiencing widespread network outages following an illegal intrusion into its servers. The disruption, reported on November 5, 2026, forced the company to suspend its online store and customer portal, My docomo, as the carrier works to determine the cause.

Network Disruptions Across Japan

NTT Docomo confirmed difficulties with its mobile telephony services across the Japanese archipelago. The network failures occurred hours after the company was forced to suspend its online store and its My docomo customer portal because of an intrusion. While the company stated that its ongoing investigation has not yet revealed evidence of unauthorized access or cyberattacks, it said there was a high probability that its servers had been illegally accessed from an external source, and it suspended the services to determine the cause. The company officially stated, Estamos experimentando dificultades con nuestros servicios de telefonía móvil (We are experiencing difficulties with our mobile telephony services) and added, Hemos determinado que existe una alta probabilidad de que nuestros servidores hayan sido accedidos ilegalmente desde una fuente externa. Por lo tanto, hemos suspendido los servicios para determinar la causa (We have determined that there is a high probability that our servers have been accessed illegally from an external source. Therefore, we have suspended the services to determine the cause).

Escalating Cyber Threats to Corporate Infrastructure

The incident at NTT Docomo follows a sharp increase in security threats targeting its parent group. During a press conference regarding financial results, NTT group president Akira Shimada reported that detected cyberattacks against the group have multiplied sevenfold over the past month compared to the previous year, according to reporting by Kyodo News.

The surge in activity is not limited to telecommunications. These breaches have exposed the personal data of millions of individuals, and in several municipalities, disaster prevention systems have been forced to temporarily suspend emergency alert services.

Government Response to Security Risks

Minoru Kihara, the chief government spokesman, addressed the situation during a press conference on the morning of November 5, describing the frequency and nature of the attacks as sumamente grave (extremely serious). Kihara stated that the current wave of intrusions threatens the safety and tranquility of citizens.

As NTT Docomo continues its investigation to determine the cause, the company has suspended its online store and the My docomo customer portal.
