The opening night on September 4 features a five-band bill that sets a heavy tone across multiple stylistic interpretations of black metal. Emerging Dutch act Bloed opens the evening, drawing clear stylistic inspiration from Blasphemy with a fast-paced war metal sound. Following them, Belgian trio Shewolff delivers a punk-infused black metal style reminiscent of the genre’s first wave and Motörhead. The night continues with Hadopelagyal performing in near-darkness amid an altar of bones, candles, and incense, generating a dense, atmospheric blend of death and black metal comparable to Teitanblood or Black Curse. Lucifericon steps in as a late replacement for Dutch black metal pioneers Cirith Gorgor, treating the local crowd to a rock-and-roll-tinged mix of death and black metal similar to Pentacle and Deströyer 666. Finland’s Beherit caps off the evening inside the intimate Hall of Fame venue, delivering a massive, industrial-influenced sound that transforms classic tracks from Drawing Down The Moon, including a crowd-moving performance of “The Gate Of Nanna” and “Pagan Moon.”
Expanding the Scope for the Second Day
The festival’s second day features an expanded roster divided between traditional black metal acts on the main stage and experimental projects on the secondary stage. The daytime lineup opens with Germany’s Satanic Black Blood, followed by the dark and melodic debut EP material of Dutch act Antzaker, and Belgian band Solfatare, who perform with a modern sound and French-language lyrics.
