Nottingham Forest has sacked Sean Dyche as head coach after just over four months in charge, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday. The dismissal comes hours after Forest secured a 0-0 draw against fellow relegation-threatened side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Dyche, appointed in October, leaves Forest 17th in the Premier League table, three points above the relegation zone with 12 games remaining. A club statement read, “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach. We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”
The sacking marks the third managerial change for Nottingham Forest this season, following the departures of Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, whose tenure lasted only 39 days. This unprecedented turnover places Forest on track to become the first Premier League club to have four permanent managers within a single campaign.
Dyche’s dismissal also arrives within a week of Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sack Thomas Frank, bringing the total number of managerial departures in the English top-flight to eight this season.
The 54-year-aged took the reins at the City Ground with Forest third from bottom, having secured only one win in eight games. While his initial appointment brought a period of relative stability, Forest’s form faltered in recent weeks, with only two league victories in their last ten fixtures. The club also suffered an FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship side Wrexham during his tenure.
Despite the challenging league form, Dyche guided Forest to the Europa League play-offs, where they are scheduled to face Turkish side Fenerbahçe in a two-legged tie next week. Dyche himself had a prior connection to the club, having been a part of Nottingham Forest’s youth setup as a player.
