Seoul Initiative Aims to Boost employment for Individuals with Disabilities
A new initiative launched by the Seoul Metropolitan Government seeks to significantly increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. the program, announced on August 24, 2025, focuses on expanding job training, providing financial incentives to employers, and fostering a more inclusive workplace environment.
The Seoul government plans to allocate significant resources to enhance vocational training programs tailored to the specific needs of individuals with diverse disabilities. These programs will cover a range of skills, from basic office governance to specialized technical expertise, aiming to equip participants with the qualifications demanded by the current job market. Emphasis will be placed on emerging industries and sectors experiencing labour shortages.
A key component of the initiative involves financial support for businesses that hire individuals with disabilities. The government will offer subsidies to offset the costs associated with workplace accommodations and provide incentives for creating accessible work environments. These incentives are designed to encourage companies to actively recruit and retain employees with disabilities.
The program also addresses systemic barriers to employment by promoting awareness and challenging discriminatory practices. workshops and training sessions will be conducted for employers and employees to foster a culture of inclusivity and understanding. The Seoul government will collaborate with disability advocacy groups and organizations to ensure the initiative effectively addresses the needs of the community.
