Noah Weiland marked the 10th anniversary of his father, Scott Weiland’s, passing with a December 3rd concert at the Garden amp outdoor amphitheater in Orange County, California, performing classics from Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. The tribute show offered a poignant look at the younger Weiland honoring his father’s musical legacy.
The idea for the concert originated with a suggestion from Noah’s therapist. “My old therapist gave me the idea to throw a party, get-together for my father,” Noah told Rolling Stone last month. “I didn’t even realize it was about to be 10 years until he brought it up. My brain started cooking ideas up instantly.” Footage of the entire performance, now available on YouTube, shows Noah tackling songs like Velvet Revolver’s “Slither” and Stone Temple Pilots’ “Plush,” occasionally straining to reach the iconic notes made famous by his father. A moment captured during the show depicts Noah accepting a light for a cigarette from a member of the audience.
The concert also featured an opening set by Jakob Nowell, son of late Sublime singer Bradley Nowell, performing with his band Jakob’s Castle. Nowell currently serves as the vocalist for Sublime.
