Noah Saviolo: Belgium to Portugal Switch for Rising Star
Vitória Guimarães winger Noah Saviolo, 22, has been called up to the Portugal Under-21 national team, potentially closing the door on any future senior international appearances for Belgium. The call-up represents a significant step in the young player’s career, which has seen a recent surge in recognition following his breakthrough season with the Portuguese club.
Saviolo, who can play on either wing, joined Vitória Guimarães in August 2022 after a period with Lille, and previously spent time in the youth academies of Anderlecht. He was promoted to Vitória’s senior team in June 2025, signing a contract that runs until 2028. His debut came in September 2025, where he provided an assist in a 2-0 league win over Estrela da Amadora.
The Belgian-born player represented Belgium at the U15 level but had not featured for the nation since, allowing the possibility of switching allegiance. His recent form for Vitória Guimarães, including 8 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season, earned him the Primeira Liga’s Young Player of the Month award for December 2025. He also played in the Taça da Liga final on January 10, 2026, where Vitória Guimarães defeated Braga 2-1.
While eligible for both Belgium and Portugal, Saviolo’s call-up to the Portuguese U21 squad suggests a firm commitment to representing Portugal. The Belgian national team had not previously expressed interest in recalling Saviolo, with neither Vincent Mannaert nor Rudi Garcia mentioning him as a potential national team player.
As of January 25, 2026, Saviolo has made 6 appearances in Liga Portugal this season, with a market value of €1.9 million according to transfermarkt.com. He has also featured in 3 Taça de Portugal matches and 6 League Cup games.
