No Further Action Against WP’s Sylvia Lim and Faisal Manap Due to Time Limit

July 7, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Government Closes Inquiry Into WP Lawmakers

Singapore Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah announced in Parliament that no further action will be taken against Workers’ Party (WP) members Sylvia Lim and Faisal Manap. The decision centers on their conduct before the Committee of Privileges, with the government confirming that the time limit for potential legal proceedings has expired.

Procedural Deadlines Halt Prosecution

Minister Indranee Rajah confirmed the government has opted not to pursue further measures against Ms. Lim and Mr. Manap. The inquiry originally investigated allegations that the two MPs provided untruthful evidence to the Committee of Privileges. However, the government has determined that the procedural requirements for further action can no longer be met.

Procedural Deadlines Halt Prosecution

According to reports from The Straits Times and The Online Citizen, this ministerial statement serves as the final government position.

This effectively ends the possibility of subsequent sanctions.

Parallel Debates in Parliament

The announcement was delivered during a parliamentary session that also addressed infrastructure and national development. While the statement regarding the WP members drew significant attention, it was presented alongside discussions concerning Singapore’s standing as a global transport hub. The matter is closed.
