Mzembi Faces Continued Legal Setback

Court Rejects Bid to Halt Remand Proceedings

Former Foreign Affairs Minister **Walter Mzembi** has been denied his application to challenge his placement on remand, marking another legal setback for the ex-diplomat.

Court Orders Trial Date Allocation

Harare regional magistrate **Donald Ndirowei** dismissed **Mzembi’s** plea, directing him to appear in court on Friday for the assignment of a trial date.

This development follows the recent confirmation of three existing arrest warrants against **Mzembi**. He has not been present in court since November 2018, and a prior attempt to nullify these warrants was also unsuccessful.

Previous Attempts to Evade Court Failed

The magistrate had previously ruled that **Mzembi’s** continued absence from court proceedings was deliberate. This latest ruling reinforces the court’s stance on his non-appearance.

In Zimbabwe, individuals facing serious charges can be denied bail if they fail to appear in court, a situation that can lead to lengthy pre-trial detention. The legal process often aims to ensure accountability for alleged offenses.
