Nike NFL Uniform Designer – Storyteller & Graphic Design Lead

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Nike is actively recruiting a Product Design Storyteller to join its NFL Uniform Design Team, seeking an individual to author narratives that inspire athletes, franchises, and fans, according to a company posting.

The role, based within Nike’s design organization, focuses on the conceptualization and development of graphic and branding elements for NFL uniforms. The position requires close collaboration with the Design Director, Product Leadership, and external NFL partners, reporting directly to the NFL Uniforms Design Director. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field, or equivalent experience, and at least eight years of graphic design experience, preferably in product creation or an agency setting.

A key requirement is a strong portfolio demonstrating a methodology for research, inspiration, design development, problem-solving, and execution. The posting emphasizes the need for someone who can thrive in ambiguity, lead with optimism, and mentor junior designers. Experience working directly with athletes and consumers is too listed as essential.

The Product Design Storyteller will be responsible for conceptualizing narratives across multiple NFL uniforms and product spaces, working with both internal and external partners to align on design, development, and presentation. Daily tasks include brainstorming creative strategies and reviewing uniform designs to ensure they meet objectives.

Nike’s interest in narrative-driven uniform design comes as the company continues to deepen its involvement with the NFL. Recent collaborations include providing Pegasus 41 running shoes branded for all 32 NFL teams, according to a recent announcement. The company also recently signed agreements with three top flag football federations, aiming to expand access to the sport globally. In 2024, Nike reintroduced its “Just Do It” campaign with a “Why Do It?” iteration, targeting a new generation of athletes.

The position requires proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, with knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop considered a plus. Competency in 3D design tools is also desired, though a willingness to learn is sufficient. Expertise in typography, color theory, brand identity, and design principles is essential, as are strong communication and presentation skills. Nike states it will provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities throughout the application and interview process.
