Raskin Remains on the Sidelines at Rangers Despite Strong International form
Glasgow, Scotland – September 8, 2025 – Nicolas Raskin, the Belgian midfielder formerly of Standard liège, finds himself in a perplexing situation at Rangers Football Club, remaining excluded from the teamS matchday selection despite consistently positive performances with the Belgian national team. The latest snub came during the August 31st Old Firm derby against Celtic, following a challenging period for the club that included a 6-0 defeat to Bruges in Champions League qualifying.
rangers manager, Martin, addressed the decision, emphasizing a team-first approach. “We must be in the field with confidence, feeling and clarity,” Martin stated. “The most meaningful thing is that Nico understands why, that players understand why. We are all going ahead, we have to win football matches now. He is part of the team in training and must help this, reintegrate into the team to help us win matches.”
Martin reiterated that all selections are made “for the good of the team,” adding, “We will always place the team in priority.”
The situation is especially noteworthy given Raskin’s contributions to the belgian national side. However, domestically, Rangers are struggling to find form, currently without a win in four league matches.
the club will look to turn their fortunes around when they begin their Europa League campaign against Genk on September 25th. Raskin’s role in that fixture, and his overall future at Ibrox, remains uncertain.
