Nick Cannon Reveals Having 12 Children Stemmed From a Desire to Fill a Void Following Trauma
Nick Cannon has opened up about the driving force behind expanding his family to 12 children, revealing it was, in part, a response to past trauma. Speaking with PEOPLE, Cannon stated he is currently “pressing hold” on having more children due to financial considerations, but didn’t rule out the possibility in the future. “I was just speaking of three years from now [or] five years from now, who knows? I’m not against it,” he said.
the actor and television host explained that a turning point came after initially deciding he was “done” having children. he questioned his right to limit his family size, acknowledging he “never imagined that I would have 12 kids.” Cannon attributes his continued desire to grow his family to a deep love for children and a desire to continue enjoying his current life path. This revelation comes as Cannon navigates co-parenting with multiple partners and launching a new late-night show.
Cannon also discussed how fatherhood, particularly having five daughters, has reshaped his perspective on dating. in a July interview with Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi, he expressed a hope that his daughters will “learn from my mistakes and not date people like their dad.” He added, ”When you have five daughters…I at least want to be able to be true and honest…I can’t live the same life that I’ve always been living and attempt to right my wrongs in that sense.”
