A woman in Nice, France, has arrive forward alleging she was a victim of Noël Smara, the founder of the humanitarian organization Exploits sans frontières, who was placed in provisional detention on February 16, 2026, following accusations of rape and sexual assault of minors. The alleged victim’s testimony was broadcast by BFM Nice Côte d’azur on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Smara, 52, admitted to the initial accusations involving two minors, leading to his detention. Since then, additional individuals have reportedly contacted authorities claiming to be victims of abuse. According to reporting from Midi Libre, one complainant alleges abuse dating back to the age of 11, continuing through adolescence, while another claims an assault occurred shortly before an expedition organized by the association.

Exploits sans frontières, under Smara’s leadership, was known for its sporting and solidarity missions, often involving young people and individuals with disabilities. This reputation for benevolence sharply contrasts with the emerging allegations. The initial accusations involved incidents reportedly occurring during a hike in the French Riviera hinterland and on a trip abroad.

The case has prompted a wave of scrutiny regarding Smara’s past activities and the organization’s oversight. As of February 27, 2026, investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the alleged abuse and identify any further victims. The Nice prosecutor’s office has not released further details regarding the ongoing investigation.

In Menton, unrelated to the Smara case, Alexandra Masson, a candidate in the upcoming municipal elections, responded to a recent poll showing her as the frontrunner. Masson also addressed accusations made by Louis Sarkozy, which she described as a “lie.” These events were covered in a broadcast by BFM Nice Côte d’azur on February 27, 2026.

Elsewhere in the region, the town of Tourrettes-sur-Loup is celebrating its annual violet festival this weekend. Valbonne’s plans for a large commercial center have been halted, and authorities in Grasse have ended the practice of holding suspects in custody for minor traffic offenses. A carnival celebration was also held at a retirement home in Nice.
