Niall Horan Reveals Health Battle & Fears Hip Replacement
Niall Horan, the former One Direction singer, has disclosed a long-term health struggle that may necessitate future joint replacement surgery. The 32-year-traditional revealed he has been dealing with knee problems since 2014, requiring reconstructive surgery, and now fears his hip joints are deteriorating with age.
Speaking on The Zach Sang Show, Horan described his knees as “f***ed” and expressed concern about his hips, stating they are “going now too.” He attributed his predisposition to joint issues to genetics, noting a family history of similar problems.
“I think I was just genetically f***ed from the day I was born,” Horan said. He detailed that his father, Bobby Horan, age 66, recently underwent a knee replacement and had a hip replacement 18 months ago, with another hip replacement planned. Horan acknowledged the early onset of these issues, despite his father’s age, stating, “I know, but it was clearly in there.” He further explained that his uncle has likewise required two knee replacements, reinforcing the familial pattern.
The revelation comes as Horan promotes his new album, Dinner Party. During the same interview, he credited his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, as a “muse” for several songs on the album, noting she “did a lot of crying” during the songwriting process. He recently described his relationship with Woolley to GQ magazine, emphasizing the importance of having a supportive partner. “Having someone to rant with and listen to and be listened to is huge. I’m glad I found it. And she’s amazing and she’s got her own thing going on. I love the life that we’ve got,” he said.
Horan and Woolley, who attended the Wimbledon Tennis Championships together in 2025, maintain a relatively private life, often spending weekends at home. “We’re also big procrastinators. Friday’ll come and I’ll be like, ‘Can’t wait for the weekend,’ and then Sunday night comes and we’ve done nothing. We spent the whole weekend in the house,” Horan admitted.
