NHS Doctor Suspended Pending Inquiry into Alleged⁤ Antisemitic Posts

A doctor with the National Health Service (NHS) has been suspended ‍from practice pending a fitness-to-practise investigation by⁤ the General Medical‍ Council (GMC).The ‌GMC,the autonomous regulator of ‍doctors, physician associates and anaesthesia associates in the UK,launched the investigation following complaints regarding alleged ‌antisemitic and perhaps terrorism-supporting comments made by Dr. aladwan on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

an interim orders tribunal (IOT) in Manchester determined to suspend Dr. ‌aladwan’s ‍practice while the GMC ⁣conducts a full investigation. The tribunal⁢ heard evidence that the⁢ alleged posts included antisemitic conspiracy theories and content ‌described⁤ as “demonis[ing], or express[ing] and encourag[ing] hatred towards ⁤Jews in general, their history and their ⁤way of life.”

While the IOT acknowledged “no information to suggest that any patient complaints have been raised or that any patients have come to harm,”⁣ it decided to impose the suspension as a ⁢precautionary measure.

Dr. Aladwan’s legal counsel argued to the tribunal that ‌there⁣ was “no evidence” her⁢ online ‌activity had impacted patient safety or her professional duties.

The suspension is effective promptly and will be reviewed ⁣within six months. The IOT hearing does not rule on the truth of the allegations, but rather determines appropriate restrictions during the investigative process. The GMC’s fitness-to-practise investigations are conducted‌ to‍ protect patient safety.
