NHL Goaltending Shakeup: Oilers, Devils, and Blue Jackets Trades

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Devils Goaltender akira Schmid Could Be a Trade Target for multiple NHL Teams

Akira Schmid, the New Jersey Devils’ goaltender, is reportedly being considered as a potential trade candidate. Several NHL teams, including the Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Chicago Blackhawks, might be interested in acquiring him via waivers. One proposed strategy involves trading Schmid independently or as part of a package deal that could include defenseman Dougie Hamilton or center Dawson Mercer.

The Edmonton Oilers have been identified as a possible trade partner for Schmid. Additionally, the Calgary Flames and Vegas Golden Knights have been mentioned as potential landing spots for the young netminder.

Schmid, similar to other goaltenders like Silovs and DiPietro, possesses potential but has a limited NHL track record. This raises questions about whether he would represent an upgrade for the Oilers over their current goaltending options. The Calgary Flames are in need of a replacement for Dan vladar, who recently signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. Simultaneously occurring, the vegas Golden Knights are reportedly seeking a clear backup goaltender to support starter Adin Hill.

Yegor Chinakhov Seeks Trade from Columbus Blue jackets

Yegor Chinakhov, a 24-year-old forward, has officially requested a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Chinakhov cited disagreements with head coach Dean Evason as the reason for his request.

Chinakhov, a first-round selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, limiting his NHL appearances to 175 games. He is described as a player whose NHL potential remains largely undefined.

Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell might aim to acquire an established NHL player in exchange for Chinakhov. However, trading him would create an additional void in the team’s forward lines, especially after the departures of James van Riemsdyk, Sean Kuraly, and Justin Danforth via free agency.

Chinakhov has one year remaining on his current contract.Remaining with the Blue Jackets could provide him with an opportunity to improve his trade value and allow both the player and the team to resolve their differences.
